Oahu Beaches

While the beauty and splendor of Oahu is spread out over 596 square miles of island, the shoreline of Oahu encompasses 120 linear miles.  This leaves for a lot of fun in the sand and on or under the surf.  Oahu is home some of the most beautiful and well-known beaches in the world.  The beaches of Oahu share the crystal white sand and the pure blue ocean that help to make them famous.  Several beaches dot the edges of Oahu, all sharing in the unique and satisfying atmosphere of the island.  There are some 30 beaches spread across the North Shore, South Shore, Leeward and Windward parts of the island.

Along the South Shore, one can find Ala Moana Beach Park, Sand Island Beach Park, Waikiki Beach, Hanauma Bay Park, Halona Beach Cove, and Sandy Beach.  The North Shore includes such fine beaches as Ka'ena Point State Park, Mokule'ia Beach Park, Ali'i Beach Park, Chuns Reef, Waimea Bay, Three Tables, Ehukai Beach Park, Sunset Beach Park, Kawela Beach, Hukilau Beach Park, La'ie Beach Park, Malekahana, and Kahana Bay.  The windward side of the island is home to Ma'ili Beach Park, Kualoa Regional Park, Lanikai Beach, Kalama Beach, Kailua Beach Park, Bellows Beach Park, Waimanalo Bay Recreation Area, and Makapu'u Beach Park.  And, on the leeward side of the island, you'll find Pokai Bay Beach Park, Nanakuli Beach Park, and Ko'Olina Lagoons.

Each of these beaches has their own separate strengths and weaknesses.  Some are more favorable to tourists, who may not be familiar with local weather warning signs, or what to look for to avoid danger.  The beaches staff full time life guards, beach patrol and more.  Some Oahu beaches provide different underwater terrain, making the area safer to swim and surf for novices.  Other beaches are known for their great waves, perfect for expert surfing, boogie boarding and more.

Whether professional or rank amateur; whether surfing, boating, swimming, or just trying to relax by the water; whether looking for amenities such as barbecues, tours, life guards, and more; the varying beaches of Oahu cater to all.  Take the time to get to know the beaches of Oahu before venturing forth.  This will help to enhance your experience while there and be sure that you'll find what you are looking for on the shores of Oahu.
