The Polynesian Cultural Center is Heating up for Summer with a $15 Kamaaina Special

Kamaaina Can Also Choose from $25 Dinner & Show Special

Laie, Hawaii – May 30, 2013 – Summer is just around the corner, and the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) is gearing up by offering kamaaina a $15 general admission special, more than half the normal cost of admission for Hawaii residents. For kamaaina looking for an evening experience, the PCC is also offering a $25 Dinner & Show Special, which includes dinner at the Island Buffet and entry to the critically acclaimed Ha: Breath of Life evening show. Both kamaaina specials are available now until the end of August.

“We know that Hawaii families will be looking for fun and affordable entertainment this summer, and we at the PCC want to share our many revitalized experiences with kamaaina, particularly our new Hawaiian Journey Theater and our recently renovated Hawaii Village,” said Raymond Magalei, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “We are excited to be celebrating our 50th Anniversary this year, and this is our way of saying ‘mahalo’ to kamaaina for their continued support over the years.”

With the $15 admission special, kamaaina can enjoy the recently launched immersive cinematic experience, Hawaiian Journey, and a full day of activities exploring the seven island villages and exhibits at PCC representing Fiji, Hawaii, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Samoa, Tahiti, Tonga and Rapa Nui (Easter Island).

Hawaiian Journey is a 14-minute cinematic extravaganza that provides a window into the deep connection that Native Hawaiians have to the land and their ancestors. Narrated by Al Harrington and projected on one of the largest screens in the state, Hawaiian Journey transports guests into gorgeous imagery of Hawaii with views that are only accessible from the air above. The special effects of Hawaiian Journey are matched only by its structural fortitude. Literally housed in a volcano, its power is made real through the amazing sound system and chairs that shake, mists from a roaring waterfall land gently on your face and sweet floral scents waft through the theater.

Throughout the rest of the day, guests can enjoy a canoe ride on a freshwater lagoon winding throughout the Center and visits to the seven island villages and exhibits represented at PCC, including the recently renovated Hawaii Village. The village’s redesign is reflective of an ahupuaa – a land division used by ancient Hawaiians, usually extending from the uplands to the sea – and includes new activities, architecture and exhibits.

Recently introduced Go Native! activities at all of the villages allow guests to learn about the Polynesian cultures through hands-on, interactive games and experiences. Guests can learn to climb up a coconut tree, throw a wooden spear, paddle a canoe or prepare food in a Polynesian fashion.

For kamaaina looking to enjoy a night out, the PCC is also offering local residents a $25 Dinner & Show Special that includes the Island Buffet and admission to the popular Ha: Breath of Life evening show. The Island Buffet includes a wide variety of Hawaiian, Asian and local favorites including sweet and sour pork, baked chicken with gravy, and fresh mahi mahi.

Since opening in summer 2009, Ha: Breath of Life has entertained more than one million guests, receiving rave reviews from locals and visitors alike. Earlier this year, PCC’s critically acclaimed evening show, Ha: Breath of Life, was named “Best Live Show” in Hawaii Magazine’s 2013 Readers’ Choice Awards. With a cast of more than 100 performers, Ha captivates audiences with the story of its central character, Mana, who they follow through the universal life themes of boyhood, love, loss and responsibility. From the apprehension of youth, to the stirrings of young love, to even the sorrow of death, Ha takes the audience on an exhilarating and emotion-filled experience through the sights, sounds and dances of Polynesia.

If one day just isn’t enough, PCC is offering kamaaina half off the purchase of a Kamaaina Annual Pass, for any Pepsi product brought to the Center box office from now through August 31, 2013. Adult passes (ages 12 and older) and keiki passes (ages 12 and under), normally $54.95 and $29.95, will be offered at rates of $28.97 for adults and  $16.47 for keiki. Guests with an annual pass are allowed unlimited visits to the PCC and Ha: Breath of Life for up to a year from the date of purchase.

Kamaaina guests are able to enjoy both the $15 admission and $25 Dinner & Show specials until August 31, 2013 with proof of Hawaii residency. The PCC is open Monday through Saturday, and is closed on Sundays. For more information or to make reservations visit Polynesia.com, or call the PCC ticket office at (800) 1-844-572-2347 . On Oahu, call 293-3333.

Celebrating 50 years in 2013, the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) was founded in 1963 as a non-profit organization, and has entertained more than 37 million visitors, while preserving and portraying the culture, arts and crafts of Polynesia to the rest of the world. In addition, the PCC has provided financial assistance to nearly 18,000 young people from more than 70 different countries while they attend Brigham Young University-Hawaii. As a non-profit organization, 100 percent of PCC’s revenue is used for daily operations and to support education.
