May Day Lei Competition

“May Day is Lei Day” is a celebration of Lei that has been going on for 95 years here in Hawaiʻi. May 1 is a day we wear fresh flower lei to celebrate the tradition of wearing lei in the islands. We invite you to participate in this year's lei-making contest and showcase your lei-making talents. We are excited to see the creative and artistic creations of the entries.
REGISTRATION:
All lei will be registered at gate 6A next to the Hawaiʻi village (Mcdonald's side, see map below) from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm on May 11, 2024.
Judging will begin at 12:30 pm, and winners will be notified by 1:00 pm.
All Lei must be at least 24 inches in length and wearable.
There will be three prizes in each category
- 1st place: $200.00 and 2 Pounders Restaurant dinners
- 2nd place: $150.00
- 3rd place: $100.00
Most popular $200.00 (most popular lei as voted on by all the visitors to the Hawaiʻi village that day)
President’s Choice Lei $200 (chosen by the President of the Polynesian Cultural Center)
The following are the 4 Lei Categories:
- Fresh Lei (flowers and foliage)
- Flowers only Lei (all fresh flowers of any type or combination)
- Coconut Lei (made with different parts of the coconut tree)
- Red & Yellow Lei (must use red and yellow flowers on 80% of the lei.)
