New T-Shirt Shop Now Open At The Hukilau Marketplace

PCC held a t-shirt design contest in June and some of those designs are now on sale

LĀ‘IE, HI – The Hukilau Store is now open at the Hukilau Marketplace. The new 1,400 square foot shop which was previously occupied by the Polynesian Cultural Center’s (PCC) box office has turned into a t-shirt shop.

“We’ve noticed a high percentage of PCC’s ticket sales are being purchased online, so the amount of space needed for onsite ticket purchases have been reduced,” said P. Alfred Grace, President and CEO of the Polynesian Cultural Center. “The focal point of the store is a t-shirt display cabinet for original designs. We are in the process of developing a collection of t-shirts with designs influenced by Polynesian culture.”

In addition to t-shirts, the Hukilau Store will stock a large collection of designer shirts such as Nike, Waiono Designs, Ogio and Travis Matthews with the PCC canoe logo included. Keiki and specialty products, including Maui Jim sunglasses will also stock the store. There is a custom t-shirt operation in partnership with Kahuku High School graduate and owner of Big Red Clothing, Robert Ah Puck, where guests can have their own design or image printed.

The Hukilau Store and the Hukilau Marketplace is named after the old tradition in the 1940’s and 1950’s of casting a net into Lā‘ie Bay and pulling in the catch for a lū‘au feast. The food, music, and dance of those days lives on at the PCC in their award-winning lū‘au feasts, entertainment, and shopping.
